Childcare

This is an obvious one. But childcare isn’t always so simple or easy. It entails having the proper knowledge of how to handle and care for children in any situation that you may land in. You provide comfort and security to parents or guardians as being their children’s trusted caretaker when they can’t be there all the time. Therefore it’s important to know how to react, as well as understand why children act the way they do.

Cleaning

As a Nanny, you’ve got to be prepared to clean up some rather unpleasant messes. It’s inevitable when dealing with babies and small children. Whether at home, or on the go, it’s always good to be prepared with the necessary supplies like some wipes, or a change of clothes.

Housework

Since the parent won’t be home all the time, they don’t always have time to keep up the chores, this may include a variety of tasks, but may vary on what’s expected of you or what you’ve agreed on. You don’t want to overstep any boundaries or possibly invade someone’s privacy by accident. It’s always good to ask for consent if you’re feeling unsure about something.

Play

Playing with kids is a fun part of this job. It’s helpful to know how to keep them happy and entertained. Think about what games you used to like to play when you were a kid, maybe you can incorporate into play time. It’s also great to get creative and try new things, from baking together, board games to arts and crafts, depending on how old the child is.
