5 Popular Alternative Diets

It’s important to know that these diets should be done under supervision in collaboration with a health professional that will guide you and make sure your needs are met.

You shouldn’t hop on a band-wagon just because something’s trendy, you should really do your research and really think about why you want to do this.

Vegetarianism and Veganism

These are meatless diets that are usually done because of a love for animals, but also because they are known for having an incredible amount of health benefits. What’s the difference? Vegans eliminate all animal products, while vegetarians still consume dairy, eggs and honey.

Keto/Low-carb

The keto diet, or the ketogenic diet, is a low-carb diet that focuses on high protein and high fat foods. The lack of carbs puts your body in a state of ketosis, which supposedly helps you burn more fat. Many people have been successful losing weight through this diet.

Paleo

This way of eating is known as the caveman diet. The purpose of this diet is to eat like our ancestors did in the past, which is supposedly a more natural way of eating. You can eat meat, fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You also need to avoid any sort of processed foods and sugars, because cavemen did not have access to those back then!

Raw Food

The raw food diet refers to food that isn’t processed, cooked or heated over a certain temperature. This diet is usually plant-based as well. A raw vegan diet is known to help with weight loss and also decrease your chance of certain foodborne diseases like Type 2 Diabetes.

Gluten-Free

The gluten-free diet avoids any foods containing gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat. But why should you avoid it? Some people have certain negative reactions from gluten. This diet is really beneficial to those who have an intolerance or sensitivity to gluten.
